So I’ve been thinking about what goals I have for this year and what races I want to sign up for…
After triathlon and marathon training last fall on top of everything I was going through personally I’d be lying if I was a little burnout. Sure enough I ended up injuring my foot mid-December and was unable to run (it hurt to walk for a few weeks!). I started just using the elliptical and bike, and occasional swim- I totally wasn’t pushing myself or working hard, I was basically just going through the motions. Boring. When I saw a $20 off advertisement for Class Pass I decided some new classes would be a great way to keep me interested in working out while I was injured.
I’ve really been enjoying workouts like Barre and after my first Pilates class on the reformer I must say I’m a big fan! These types of works incorporate small movements that create a serious burn but are very different then my usual type of regime. I definitely plan on incorporating moves from these classes, and maybe even grabbing some class packages after my Class Pass membership is over in April.
I’ve also been trying to stick to spinning once a week and swimming once a week to maintain some sort of off season triathlon conditioning. Not taking it serious at all, basically just getting in an easy swim… and trying out some new spin classes as well. I’m saving my spin class thoughts for another post, but check back in about that soon.
Anyways… back to my foot injury. After x-rays and a MRI it appears to be severe tendonitis which is good news- I can run as tolerated. The bad news is sometimes it’s still a little painful. However I’m attempting to get in some longer runs in hopes of two spring half marathons- one is definitely tentative and depends on how this weekend’s long run goes, fingers crossed. April will start full mode tri training- biking, swimming, running, plus adding in more strength training and HIIT training this year to keep my muscles strong and hopefully prevent injury.
Tentative Race Schedule 2016
Love Run Half Marathon– April 10th
So I probably should’ve never signed up for this race and have been regretting it ever since. I’ve been battling this foot injury all winter and will likely not be ready to race- I could definitely do the race and get through it okay but I don’t want to push too hard too soon and suffer a set back because I have another awesome spring half marathon to complete. I’ve done two long runs at this point so I’ll probably just run it to finish and not throw away money, but I have pretty low expectations.
Middlebury Maple Run– May 1st
I am missing my first Broad Street Run since moving to Philly 5 years ago but for a great reason! I was selected as a member of the Cabot Fit Team to run the half marathon on behalf of Cabot Cheese Cooperative. I am so grateful for this opportunity and excited for a long weekend visiting Vermont!
I haven’t raced a 5k or 10k that wasn’t part of a triathlon in like 5 years. I would love to see where I’m at for some shorter distance races. Plus my husband- who is not a runner- has been running more than me (mostly because my running has been limited due to injury) and he is interested in doing a 5k!
Sprint Tri- end of May/early June
Tri Rock Philly Olympic – June 26th
Possibly adding in the sprint the day before.
Olympic tri- July/August
Mighty Moraine Man Half Distance– Sept 10th
I’m hoping to complete my first Half Ironman this year. Right now this is the race that I’m eyeing due to logistics, timing, and costs.
Philly Marathon-Nov 20th
Since my first marathon was messed up by crunched training time, injury, poor planning, life, etc, I’d like to see what I can really do, on my own, properly trained. Only one small problem is that the hubs and I are planning a European trip for late September into early October. This could be very problematic for training as I don’t want to have to do a 16 miler in Italy and etc. I’ll probably see what kind of running shape I’m in and our trip is booked before signing up for this… but I really would like to do a marathon this fall.
Sooo… lots of races on the agenda and hopefully I will be injury free and enjoy all these experiences. What races do you have on your calendar this year!??? Any suggestions for races for me to add? Have you done any of these races??
