Oh hey there 2018! Hope everyone’s year has been off to a great start! The end of 2017 was rocky year for me so I’m excited to be stepping into a new year with new opportunities and excitement! Since it’s been awhile since I’ve checking in on life, fitness, etc. I figured I would share an update!
So I mentioned last June I moved… but I was rather vague but now I can share all the information… I moved back to my hometown, Pittsburgh!!!! Most of my family (including my mom and sisters) live in the area and I always planned to move back. The past couple years have been extra rough being apart from my mom and sisters after my dad suddenly passed away. At the beginning of last year Pat and I got serious about job searching and I ended up with a dream job opportunity. Learning the new job is one of the reason’s I’ve been posting less…. I’ve been doing a lot of learning and career growing in other ways but I’m planning on taking the blog to big places in 2018.
Another reason I have been in MIA on social media and the blog is that it was hard moving back…. I left Philly where I had been living the past 6 years and had a routine and huge group of friends and moved to a city I haven’t really lived in since high school. My best friends are all local to Pittsburgh still so that helped alot but I also have begun building a new tribe (thank you social media and blogging!).
It was also hard living here without my dad being here… yes of course I visited frequently but now I see my mom and sisters all the time and his absence is staring right at me. I don’t want to get too personal here but this was a lot harder than I thought it would be… in the past 6 months I’ve been to the cemetery once because it just feels like moving back has opened some new wounds in all the healing I’ve been working on. I know that in the long run being close to family is the best for me emotionally so I know these wounds will begin to heal again. For any new readers or friends my dad was basically my best friend, my biggest fan- I don’t know any father closer to his daughters which makes it even harder for me.
Probably the biggest reason the move was so hard was that I had to leave the hubs behind 🙁 Pat and I agreed when we started looking that in the likely event we did not get jobs at the same time that we would do a long distance marriage for a bit and travel to see each other every weekend. While we did long distance several years ago when I was living in Baltimore and he was in Philly that was before we were married and used to seeing each other daily. Lots of facetiming and trips to see each other helped a little but it just sucked overall. (Sneaking in a 2 week Europe trip helped break it up a little too.) Traveling back and forth was no picnic either- Philly to Pittsburgh is roughly a 5 hour drive and I was doing it almost every other weekend (hello allllll the miles on our cars). It was exhausting. But fortunately Pat was offered an amazing job in December and moved out here about a month ago. We are currently subletting in the city for the next few months (local peeps- hit me up!) while we begin searching to buy our first house! I’m sure this will be stressful and exciting at the same time but I’m so excited to build a home together and get away from renting. Any tips for a newbie??!!
So yes… I’ve been way less present on the blog and social media and took several steps back from other life opportunities. My fitness has been steady but I stopped training for anything because I just needed to focus on my new job, location, life, etc. I’m hoping to do another half marathon, Ironman, and Marathon this year (all spaced far apart) and one big exciting announcement is that I’m now a SOAS ambassador. Soas is women’s sport specific and they make gorgeous high quality pieces for any of my endurance athlete friends definitely check them out!
I would love to hear from you guys about what you’d like to see more of on the blog this year??? Day in the life posts?? Nutrition info??? Fitness posts??? Leave a comment or message me on instagram @dietitianjess Hopefully that’s a good life update for everyone that has been wondering what I’m doing with my life! Thanks for sticking with me during this crazy time 🙂
