I’m honestly afraid to even type this out because I think every time I mention my tentative race plans my foot starts hurting again and I have to back out of a race. Keep your fingers crossed it won’t happen again this time. I last mentioned my race schedule for the summer in March– but that got changed. And then I gave a brief update here so I’ll let you know where I’m at now…
After working with a physical therapist I believe I’m on the road to recovery and hopefully the exercises are helping- I ran for the first time in almost 3 months last week- 1 mile- woo! And then I ran two this week. I have to run six at the New Jersey State Tri this weekend which will be a little rough since I’ve only run about 10 times in the last 6-7 months but hopefully my foot will hold up. My goal for the run is to complete it without pain… I’m so not in running shape so it’s going to hurt and usually the run is where I excel- not this time. I’m hoping to see some bike time improvement from my Olympic tris last year and also some slight swim improvement so hopefully that will make up for a crappy run time.
My training definitely hasn’t been the best and I’ve done zero brick workouts so my ambitions are low. Since I’m an official blogger for the Pittsburgh triathlon I’m hoping I can run more in the next month to get back into a more competitive zone but I really am still anxious about the healing of my foot and don’t want to push myself too hard. Also I’m racing in a new age group for the first this year- 30-34!! I will miss you less competitive 25-29 year old age group. (FYI I turn 30 in about 3 months so you race based on the age you turn that year)…. #gettingoldishard
I don’t want to jinx this either but Sunday’s tri will be my first time clipping in for a race- I just switched out my pedals in the last week so I’ll probably be a little shaky but hopefully it will get me feeling really comfortable. Does anyone else think clipping in is the worst? I think it’s terrifying. Wish me luck!
My big plans for this year where to do my first half ironman and get my marathon redemption- this will be injury pending so I probably won’t talk about it until I see how my Olympics go and if I can actually run again. Considering doing an aqua velo half if I’m not in running shape (I can wing 6 miles without training but a half marathon after a ton of swimming and biking is pretty much out of the question)… have you ever done a triathlon? aqua velo? Had chronic tendinopathy in your foot? #painful
What are your race plans for summer!? Or for the fall- tell me about it 🙂
