Last night my husband, one of our friends, and I attended POD’s sushi school (in Philadelphia). We started off meeting the chef and were served miso soup and a green salad with ginger dressing. Yum. Next came the fun part, the sushi making!!! The pictures aren’t awesome because the lighting was pretty poor but you get the general idea.
First we made a California roll with cucumber, avocado, (imitation) crab meat, and of course rice. This roll is made inside out with the rice on the outside. First he delicately sliced the veggies for us (that knife was sharp!) and handed us our plates and seaweed to start rolling.
First you spread the rice out on one side and sprinkled it with sesame.
Next we flipped the seaweed over and placed the veggies on the other side.
After the veggies were positioned we rolled the seaweed to cover the veggies and crab.
Then we used our bamboo to perfectly shape the sushi into a nice tight roll.
Next we made a hand roll with spicy tuna (only I went with no spicy mayo so mine was just tuna). That was only the second time I’ve had a hand roll of sushi and I’m still deciding if I like it that way or not.
Finally we finished the night off with some green tea!
Such a fun night with my husband and friend! Have you ever made sushi before?? Do you love eating it as much as I do? What’s your favorite roll??
