Hi guys! I can’t believe we are saying goodbye to summer already. I really feel like this was the busiest summer ever but I think I say that every year! Today I want to introduce my virtual intern- Courtney! She’s going to tell you guys a little more about herself and will be posting throughout the year on various nutrition topics. I’m excited to have her on board so she can share a dietetic student perspective
My name is Courtney Rayppy, a 21 year old aspiring Registered Dietitian and I am thrilled to be interning under Jessica this year while I am finishing up my Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics at the
University of Nevada, Reno. I have been following Jessica’s blog for a while now and much like her, I love the idea of using social media to share my passion for nutrition and wellness by introducing the importance keeping the body and the mind healthy. While I love writing articles on my own blog: Fresh, Fit and Fabulous, I recently reached out to Jessica in hopes to share some articles about my experiences in nutrition from a college-student perspective. Growing up as a teenager with an eating disorder and misconceptions about diet and exercise, I cannot express how much I value the importance of practicing self-love and body positivity while maintaining a healthy diet rich in vital nutrients that our bodies need.
A few of my hobbies of mine include hiking in Lake Tahoe, playing music, cooking, weight training and drawing or painting on the occasion when I’m in need of a little relaxation. I
currently am employed at a local hospital as a Dietary Clerk in the nutrition department where I am learning the importance of nutrition and diet in the clinical setting. Recently, I have fallen in
love with a local gardening and farming program in Reno; the program teaches younger children about agriculture, how to grow produce and even harvest their own food in school gardens. When I am not in school or working, I am usually in the gym weight training for fitness competitions-something I have just recently been interested in. For the last 8 years I participated in High School, College and professional marching band until it became too much of a time commitment this past year.
I am eager to be working as a student intern under Jessica and I look forward to hopefully writing some interesting articles for the blog. Jessica has been a huge inspiration and
motivator for me to pursue my future in Dietetics since the beginning. My ultimate end goal is to become a Registered Dietitian with specializations in Sports Nutrition and Agricultural
Farming. As an intern, I am hoping to share some incite about what I am currently doing to prepare myself for my Dietetic Internship and how I keep nutrition a part of my life as a college
student with a tight budget and a hectic schedule.
Looking forward to writing for you all soon,
